The laser therapy and laser acupuncture in animals with paresis or paralysis of the limbs

Case No.1

A five-year old mixed breed, spayed, because of her temperament, female had recurrent problem with stiffness of her hind legs. The difficulty in climbing the stairs was gradually turning into her biggest issue. NSAIDs brought only short-term improvement. Additionally, the problems with urination and defecation are increasingly apparent.

Clinical Examination: spastic paraplegia, deficit of correction in hind limbs, proper spinal reflex and deep pain reaction.

During diagnostic procedure with the laser of the thoracolumbar section of vertebral column, a noticeable reaction was registered — primarily between L2 and L5 space and on the TING points on the rear limbs.

Result of neurologic examination: The discopathy was suspected in Th3-L3 spinal space; spinal MRI examination being suggested.

Result of MRI examination: Herniated vertebral disc in space of L3-L4 with pressure on the right spinal cord. It was recommended to relieve decompression surgically.

Treatment: Even before MRI examination two treatments of laser acupuncture was performed. Flora began to urinate and defecate, and started to walk as well.

During MRI procedure, a short action steroid was given (Rapidexon 0,2%).

Because of promissing results of the first to LLLT sessions, the owner decided to give up surgery and continue laserotherapy. After another four treatments which involved handling of accupuncture points — GV6, GV3, Bl 23 with A” and C frequency mix, and St36, GB34, BL40 Bl60, KID1, KID3 LIV3 and TING points with A” + E frequency mix — the dog began to run and jump. No proprioreception deficit has been observed.

For treatment it was used a low level laser impulse device with 904 nm wave-length and the peak power of 90W.

Rehabilitation and Low Level Laser Therapy

The cat with the broken limb and paresis

The X-ray revealed transverse fracture with dislocation of shafts of the ulna and radius and soft tissue the swelling of the left front limb. Ulnar and radius nerves were probably damaged too but no apparent section could be pointed to. A plaster cast was applied on a broken limb. Prognosis were rather tentative because of the complexity of the fracture. Therefore there was no guarantee whatsoever whether and how the cat could walk again.
Following the cast removal, a laser therapy was undertaken to rehabilitate the limb.

Immediately after the first laser treatment, the cat tried to put the paw on the floor and walk. After the second, the animal was able to walk altought still limping. After the third, it jumped on the back of the owner and then off the approx. 1,2 m height table. He became vigorous again; running lively around and using his limb as if nothing had ever happend to it.

For treatment it was used a low level laser impulse device with 904 nm wave-length and the peak power of 90W.

Stem cells and low level laser therapy

The eight years old female, black Russian terrier suffering from a bilateral hip dysplasia, type D and spine spondylosis came to the clinic due to lameness. Because of the diagnosed renal failure, administration of non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory, analgesic medications was contraindicated.

The dog has undergone stem cell transplantation twice but only the first one brought a brief period of improvement noted by the owner.

The dog didn’t load her rear left leg during walking and had the problem with standing up. Additionally, she had lesion on her right front leg. Trials of touching this area were inducing her aggression. Palpably observed pain concentrated especially around the left knee and right hip. The biceps femoris muscle atrophy was clearly visible.

It was decided to try LLLT treatment. The therapy involved the local areas irradiations (hips, left knee, right shoulder joint, right carpus and lesion located near the fifth finger of the right front leg) and laser acupuncture performed with mixed frequency A” and C on the following points: GV9, GV6, GV3, Bl 23 and SI3, LU7, LI11, TH5, ST35, St36, Gb34, BL40, BL60, KID1, KID 3.

Already after the third treatment session, the improvement was noticeable: injured claw healed, the dog became calm whilst palpation the affected areas and started to load her left rear leg. A total of 13 treatments were carried out every second day. Upon conclusion of the treatment course lamenes disappeared. Currently, she is able to run up to her friends whe while being walked in the park.

Summary: Local tissue laser beam irradiations combined with biological active points stimulation by means of a laser beam (laser acupuncture, PCLAC) can be successfully applied to treat animals affected with limbs mobility impairment, including even the most severe cases of paralysis. It is a very safe and effective method: In every case described hereafter therapy brought substantial relief; adverse symptoms ceasing and biological functions returning. For treatment it was used a low level laser impulse device with 904 nm wave-length and the peak power of 90W.

Low level laser therapy in animal with chronic degenerative lesions, “Weterynaria” 6/2014, 76-85

Summary: Low level laser therapy (LLLT) in animal treatment and rehabilitation are used with increased recurrence. In all cases described in the article, the treatment was based on the possibility to administer two different frequencies at one time which not only significantly improved efficiency but accelerated the effects of laser performance. All treatments were carried out with the 90 W/904 nm impulse laser and involved a combination of local treatment with handling of biological active points.
